Tinubu committed to stable academic calendar, says Minister
The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that the era of prolonged strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other tertiary institution unions will soon be over.
The minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, gave the assurance at the 2025 Scientific Conference and Induction Ceremony of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Nigeria (AMSN) held in Lagos.
He described uninterrupted academic calendars as vital to national development, noting that ASUU had recorded over 54 months of strike since inception — an experience he said the Tinubu administration is determined to end.
Alausa highlighted the ongoing initiatives such as the Students’ Loan Scheme, the repositioning of TETFund, and the proposed Education Research Fund, aimed at improving quality teaching, research, and institutional stability.
He also commended the AMSN for promoting excellence in medical research and pledged stronger collaboration between the academy and the Ministry of Education.
