The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved three new programmes for Crescent University, Abeokuta, starting from the 2025/2026 academic session.
The new courses are LLM Law, BSc Cyber Security and BSc Software Engineering. The approval was confirmed in an official letter handed to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibraheem Gbajabiamila, by the Acting Director of Academic Planning of the NUC, Abubakar Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu.
NUC approval for Crescent University programmes
The NUC letter dated 13 November 2025, with reference number NUC/AP/P21/VOL.II/12, states that the Executive Secretary has considered and approved the establishment of these full-time programmes.
The letter explains that:
The programmes are to run in full-time mode
They will be based on the main campus of the university
They take effect from the 2025/2026 academic session
This gives clear official backing for the new law and computing programmes.
New postgraduate and undergraduate programmes at Crescent University
From 2025/2026, the approved programmes are:
LLM Law
BSc Cyber Security
BSc Software Engineering
LLM Law expands the postgraduate options in legal studies, while the BSc Cyber Security and BSc Software Engineering degrees give students clear paths into computing fields such as information security and software development.
Role of the NUC and the approval process
The National Universities Commission, through its Academic Planning arm, reviewed the request to start these programmes. The Acting Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar Girei, signed the approval letter on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibraheem Gbajabiamila, also paid a working visit to the Executive Secretary of the Commission. During this visit, the Executive Secretary congratulated him on the progress made to begin the new programmes.
The letter ends by confirming the approval and offering the Executive Secretary’s kind regards to the Vice Chancellor.
